Aerial Hoop
Learn Aerial Hoop
Aerial Hoop is a beautiful circus and acrobatics inspired full body workout. This impressive discipline is a fantastic way to build strength and stamina, whilst also improving your core and flexibility.

You will have the opportunity to learn a variety of exciting dynamic tricks, spins, balances and transitions in this above ground class. As you start to learn new moves each lesson, you will be able to experience and enjoy the challenge of sequencing them together, in your very own routine.
Our hoops are rigged via a single point to the ceiling and have a swivel attached, allowing the hoop to spin when you add momentum to your movements. This skill looks particularly impressive, as you are above ground level at all times and it really does feel like you are flying! It’s so much fun!
You don’t have to have any previous fitness experience or a dance background to start hoop lessons with us. You can start working towards increasing your strength and flexibility, from the very first lesson. Our Introduction to Aerial Hoop courses are designed with absolute new beginners in mind and we also offer private tuition too.
Dress code
For our aerial hoop classes, we wear leggings which cover the back of the knee and any top of choice. We recommend wearing a top which covers the lower back where possible, as this is often a contact point on the hoop. However, you can wear whatever you feel confident and comfortable in.
At Elements, we train in barefoot and socks. We encourage you to bring a pair of socks so you have the option, as it can make some moves feel a little smoother. We ask you to please take your shoes off at the door, to protect our beautiful professional dance door.
This is really important please, no jewellery. Stud earrings can stay in but anything dangly like necklaces, hoops, etc, please remove before the class. If you cannot remove your rings, please let your instructor know and we can cover them with some tape.
We recommend tying your hair up where possible, just to get it out your way! However, we totally understand that some of you may feel more confident with it down, so do what feels right for you! If you change your mind when you are here, we have hair ties you can help yourself to.
Super important, please do not moisturise or apply fake tan to your hands, at least 24-hours prior to your lesson. As much as we all love to have a good moisturise, unfortunately it’s not your friend when it comes to aerial disciplines. If you turn up with moisturiser on, you risk making your hands very slippery and not having a very good class. So, save the moisturiser for after hoop class, not before!
Frequently asked questions
To get you used to working above ground, our beginners classes start with the hoops quite low and close to the floor. This is to get you accustom to working in the air! We will eventually work towards the hoops being higher but we start with them at a lower height, so you can learn all the basic techniques first. We use professional grade crash mats at all times, so you can train with confidence.
No, please don’t worry - there is no weight limit on our hoops as they are professionally installed and reinforced into the ceiling. They are professional steel hoops and all our rigging attachments are load tested for extreme weights, as they are also designed for rock climbing.
There is absolutely no need to do this. Please don’t let this hold you back from coming to class. If losing weight is something you want to do, our classes are a fantastic way to burn calories and improve your fitness – so use it as a reason to start, not something which stops you.
There is no minimum fitness requirement to join our aerial hoop classes. You will increase your strength and stamina, as you progress with your lessons. The great part about aerial hoop is once you are up in the hoop, you are able to sit on the bottom bar (like a swing) and pause. This gives you time to take a moment to get your breath back, rest your arms if needed and think about the next move.
We totally understand you may feel nervous about starting a class and want to check it out first but everyone is in the ‘same boat and often feeling exactly the same. Our classes are super friendly, small and personal - we only allow up to 8-participants at a time. So, please be brave and just come join in! If you feel too anxious to join a group class, book in a private lesson to come try it out first.
How to get started
You have three options to join us for aerial hoop:
If you see an Introduction to Aerial Hoop course on our timetable, you can just sign yourself in and register for the course. If there are no introductory courses available, you can contact us to join our waiting list and we will let you know when we next have a new beginners course starting. If you already have pole experience, get in touch with us and we can recommend the best class for you.
If you see a time and date which works for you but its at a higher level, if you are willing to have private tuition to learn the level(s) you missed, we can get caught up to join. A typical example of the number of private lessons needed is 2-3 lessons per level. So to join a Level 2 course, you’d need a couple of private lessons to learn the Level 1 content you missed.
We offer private tuition 7 days a week, mornings, afternoons and evenings. Our studio is open all week, every week. If you’d like to get started with a private lesson, please contact us and we can send you our availability.

I used to do synchronised swimming competitively, and when I had to stop through injury, never thought I’d be able to find another way to be active and creative at the same time. Working on the hoop with Abi has built up my confidence and given me back a safe and “happy place” to be.

We love hoop as it’s a very progressive skill - you can see your progress as the weeks go on. That’s why we love to take photos and videos during classes (totally optional) as you can look back and see how far you have come! . It’s such a fun and unique skill to learn and it’s really different to any class you can find at your local gym!
Not only is aerial hoop great for your physical health, it’s also really good for your mental health and well-being. If you are looking to improve your self image, body confidence and give yourself a little more self love – aerial hoop could be the perfect class with you! Aerial hoop is a great way to work on body and mind connection. It’s a beautiful way to express yourself, get creative and move in ways you didn’t even know you could.
You no longer have to dread your weekly workout, it’s now something you can really look forward to! Lots of our members come more than once a week too, it’s really addictive once you get started!
